WELCOME TO DUNHAM LEGAL

With convenient interstate access from the heart of East Cobb just 10 minutes away, Dunham Legal is easily accessible to our clients from anywhere in the Metro Atlanta area.

Michael R. Dunham, Esq.

Mike has been a trial lawyer for 15 years. He has extensive trial experience in a wide variety of civil litigation matters. His background also includes experience as appellate counsel, a licensed mediator, and as a former educator.

Mike founded Dunham Legal in December 2016 after having been with Cohan Law Group, LLC for nearly four years. ...

Prior to joining Cohan Law Group, Mike spent his entire legal career with the law firm of Gibson, Deal, Fletcher and Dunham, P.C. (formerly Gibson, Deal and Fletcher, P.C.), first as a law clerk, then as an associate, and for the last four years of his tenure there, as a partner and member of the firm.

Mike’s experience includes litigation in the areas of landlord-tenant law (including dispossessory/eviction cases), domestic relations law (divorce, alimony, child custody, child support, modification, and adoption cases), business and commercial litigation (breach of contract, vendor and customer disputes, collection claims, guaranty defense, “business divorces”, etc.), and claims under the Georgia Resolution of Construction Defects Act.

Mike has also written and lectured extensively on landlord-tenant law, including the publication of his book for non-lawyers, “A Brief Guide to Georgia Evictions”, in August 2012, as well as maintaining an active blog at www.GeorgiaEvictionBook.com. Mike has also published a second book, “Your Post-Divorce Compass: Practical, Real-World Advice for the Newly Single”, which is a nuts-and-bolts “road map” for recent divorcees who need help getting their financial lives back in order after the divorce is over.

Mike earned his Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law in 2002, and he also holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Alabama. A current and former small business owner, entrepreneur, and educator, Mike also networks extensively and frequently finds himself mentoring other business owners in small (and not-so-small) ways.

Mike is an Eagle Scout and is active in several leadership roles at East Cobb United Methodist Church in Marietta. Mike’s wife, Donna, has worked in the Walton High School guidance department since 2001. Mike and Donna live in East Cobb with their two children.

Sarah S. Ohms, Esq.

Sarah is a local who grew up in Marietta, Georgia and graduated from Lassiter High School. From there, she attended the #1 music conservatory, Eastman School of Music, and received a bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance. Her fine attention to detail and relentless goal for perfection is what got her to Eastman and translates into how she practices law. ...

Stacy M. Dickson

Stacy is the firm paralegal. A graduate of Reinhardt University, Stacy holds a bachelors degree in Education. She started working for Dunham Legal in 2016. I think Mike has an uncanny ability to remember and access details on individual cases as if they were his own even though he clearly has other clients and his own personal life.

[Mike was w]ell informed about the law and able to put things into language that I could understand. He also understood my personal situation, and brought up points that benefitted me that I had not considered. He was also sensitive to the emotional difficulties of the situation and my children.

I used Mr. Dunham for a divorce/custody case recently that lasted a little over year and ended in Court. He was more than fair with fees and did not needlessly rack up charges. He is plain spoken which I admire. You know where you stand. I felt he displayed incredible integrity. I also learned that in his spare time he contributes and is involved in various charities and outreach programs. I was satisfied by the verdict and appreciated all his hard work and effort.

I was satisfied with the outcome of my case. While I would have liked to receive more money, I accepted a settlement which was far more that was offered by the other party.

Yes, I am satisfied! Mike did an excellent job staying on task and not letting time pass unnecessarily. Despite going slightly over budget (due to circumstances mostly out of his control), the cost wasn’t exorbitant.

“A Brief Guide to Georgia Evictions”

A plain-English “how-to” guide, written for non-lawyer landlords and lawyers who do not typically specialize in landlord-tenant law. Written by an experienced lawyer with more than a decade of experience in this area of the law as both litigator and mediator, this brief yet information-packed book complements, rather than replaces, the many available legal treatises on the subject. The reader is guided through the entire “dispossessory” (eviction) process, beginning with concerns to be addressed before suit is even filed, and continuing throughout all phases of litigation, including trial, mediation, appeals, and the eviction process itself. The book is also liberally sprinkled with practice pointers and helpful hints designed to maximize the landlord’s potential for success.

“Your Post-Divorce Compass: Practical, Real-World Advice for the Newly Single”

“Your Post-Divorce Compass: Practical, Real-World Advice for the Newly Single” is a comprehensive workbook designed to help someone who is recently divorced sort out “everyday life” issues like updating insurance beneficiaries, automating finances, and hiring the right financial advisors. Written by a family lawyer with over a decade of experience, this book complements the many excellent resources which exist for helping divorcees deal with their emotional and spiritual crises by methodically guiding the reader through a host of financial matters. The book’s unique, “one task per day” mentality also empowers the reader by turning a complex mass of problems into a manageable group of tasks.

Not On My Property: Understanding Property Division

Posted On January 5th, 2021 by Michael Dunham

No one ever plans on getting divorced or separated from their significant other. Key Differences Between Trusts and Wills

Posted On January 4th, 2021 by Michael Dunham

Many people know that they need a will before they pass away, but what about a trust? What even is a trust? Why do we hear that a trust is better than a will for estate planning? In typical attorney-fashion, whether a trust is better than a will depends on each individual’s circumstances. Anybody that…
